SUMMARY:Oyster Fest
DESCRIPTION:Cold weather means delicious oysters. You’ve probably heard this idea repeated many times\, especially in February\, deep in the midst of Seattle’s seemingly interminable winter. Along with being a mantra the people of the Pacific Northwest use to console themselves during these dark days\, this statement has the added benefit of being true. It’s your seasonal responsibility to slurp up as many of these briny local delicacies as possible\, preferably with cool\, crisp wines. I can’t think of a better place to do that than Oyster Fest at Fremont’s Vif\, a cafe that’s also a wine shop dedicated to natural wines\, which\, like oysters\, are left mostly alone\, allowing their inherent flavors to shine. As an added bonus\, Vif is lined with large windows that let in plenty of light\, even on the grayest of days.

Stylistically the vocals mine a rich seam of spoken word house\, operating in the same sphere as\, for example\, Kerri Chandler’s ‘Back To The Raw’. Instrumentally\, meanwhile\, Lustwerk seems to be single-handedly attempting to claw back the notion of ‘deep house’ from the risible soft-porn-backdrops-on-YouTube brigade\, clearly nodding to tracks like Larry Heard’s ‘Can You Feel It’.” – The Quietus \nAOS:\nAOS is a Seattle-based producer and DJ whose musical explorations are influenced by her interest in the haphazard\, subversive nature of DIY spaces as well as deep curiosity in the contrast between the textural and the rhythmic. \nTANE:\nA disco maven with a penchant for hard wax. SUMMARY:G. Love & Special Sauce at The Crocodile
DESCRIPTION:The enigmatically smooth Garrett “G. Love” Dutton is one of Philadelphia’s funkiest performers of laid back\, alternative hip-hop blues (a genre he helped define). As an insatiable musical omnivore\, G. Love somehow manages to synthesize his iconic influences by shedding their layers to find that harmonic convergence where song and listener bare their souls to each other speaking nothing but the raw-boned truth. G. Love mines the sonic ore of his heroes only to emerge with a fresh lode of precious stones. \nHe explains his sounds as\, “a nod back and a step forward. I return to the roots of blues and folk to make my music. Its what first moved me. I fell in love with it and learned music as a teenager\, which is such a developmentally pivotal point in ones life. That point when you decide you wanna play guitar\, right? I was 16 when I discovered folk music\, the blues\, and Bob Dylan and that was simply the backbone for everything that followed for me musically. I mean\, this is my second decade as a recording and touring musician and at heart I’ve always been a roots musician. I want to carry on the tradition not in a nostalgic way\, but by keeping it fresh\, real and unexpected”

SUMMARY:Noise Yoga feat. Bardo:Basho
DESCRIPTION:Noise Yoga returns to the Frye Salon for a winter season. \nNoise Yoga situates the embodied mindfulness that is core to Yoga practices within a visually rich salon-style gallery and the challenging acoustic environment of modern experimental sound art to curate a unique arts experience. The series facilitates a focused space to appreciate modern compositions by grounding participants’ experience through the mind-body connection breaking the often static experience of the audience to challenge participants’ understanding of the relation of sound to the body\, and their personal relation to artistic appreciation. \n————————–—————–\nArtist :: Bardo:Basho\n————————–—————– \n“Kristen Thom’s solo musical venture Bardo:Basho offers up a blending of the Seattle artist’s various musical interests. The haunting spirituality of new age sidles along swooping downtempo beats\, ghostly clouds of drones\, and Thom’s steady and passionate vocals. It’s a decidedly sensual mix of sounds that feels at times like it’s taking shape before you.” – Portland Observer \n————————–—————–\nInfo\n————————–—————– \nMore information can be found on the Frye’s event page\, as well as at http://noise.yoga/ \nJoin the mailing list or subscribe to the Noise Yoga event feed to make sure you get updates on the events. \n————————–—————–\nTickets\n————————–—————– \nSingle event tickets:\n$10 Frye member / student / artist / teacher / senior\n$15 Regular price \nPrices are the same for walk-in admittance. \nVery limited slots will be held open for walk-ins so plan on purchasing a ticket to hold your spot. \nPurchase tickets here:\nhttp://fryemuseum.org/program/noiseyoga \n————————–—————–\nDetails\n————————–—————– \nClasses start promptly\, no late entries.
