DESCRIPTION:Ganja Yoga With Erin Allan February 23rd \nGanja Yoga is about connecting with others\, but mostly\, yourself. Combining cannabis and yoga is a healing ritual that has persisted through the ages. Although ancient yogis discovered the therapeutic effects of this practice long ago\, the modern day implementation has never been more relevant and necessary. Many of us live our lives in a constant state of stress and reaction to life and its challenges\, whether from media bombardment\, over stimulation\, or navigating a never-ending list of pressures and responsibilities from work\, family\, and our modern day-to-day life. These stressors have a formidable impact on body\, mind\, and spirit. Rarely do we make or find time to be still and simply allow life to be what it is. As a result\, some of us can feel a separation from ourselves. The word Yoga means union\, to bring and yoke together: Ganja Yoga can be way of balancing oneself physically\, mentally\, and spiritually. Connecting all aspects of oneself to each other in balance\, peace of mind\, and joy\, in a supportive community environment. Bringing these two activities together creates space for intense mystical experiences\, possibly resulting in a profound shift in awareness. This workshop will give us all a chance to connect with others on the same journey. Let’s explore this magic together!\nNOTE: This is a 21 and over event. \nAbout the yoga: This will be a restful and restorative practice focused on balancing the chakras\, incorporating reflection and promoting tranquility. We also recognize the privileges we have in this industry and like to use this season to give back to the community. Lux Pot Shop’s Giving Season returns for our fourth year and will run from November 29th through December 24. This year\, our efforts will be exclusively focused on our long-time partner organization\, Treehouse. We are accepting donations at either of our locations located in the Ballard and Lake City neighborhoods. Next time you stop in\, please consider donating something a local kid in Seattle would enjoy. We appreciate everyone coming together to help our community! \nTreehouse History\nTreehouse was born in 1988\, as the brainchild of several DSHS social workers who recognized the equity disparity faced by children and teens in foster care. The organization began by providing youth in foster care with the essentials they needed to feel loved\, and have since expanded to providing 7\,000 youth per year with support\, supplies\, and childhood experiences that kids need to fulfill their potential. In 2012 they took on the ambitious goal of addressing the drop-out rate for high school students in foster care and have since reframed the way individualized support in the foster care system looks. \nAll of our locations will host a collection drive for on behalf of youth in foster care at Treehouse during this period of time. Physical and monetary contributions can be dropped off throughout the duration of the collection drive\, in addition to toys\, electronics\, clothes\, etc. In addition\, interested customers will be able to find a wish-list installation at both stores\, where donors can take an individual kid’s entire list. \nBrighten up a local kid’s day by donating at any of our locations! DESCRIPTION:ACCESSIBILITY NOTE:\nThe venue is wheelchair accessible and we will have a scent free seating area for audience members who have chemical sensitivities. \nJoin us for “Activist Poetics”\, a FREE night of performance that blends poetry\, intersectionality\, and social justice at the Central Library.  \nEach of our selected performers have been inspired by—and deeply engaged with—the surge of public and digitally inflected social movements. Hashtags such as #Blacklivesmatter\, #sayhername\, #blacktranslivesmatter have become incantations\, the poetic phrases that have helped mobilize social movements via social media and other digital networks. Building new solidarities as they go. \nThe poems performed will add texture to the contemporary conversation in literary criticism that asks where the new avant garde in poetry is going. Is it as Cathy Park Hong (Sarah Lawrence College; poetry editor of The New Republic) has suggested\, that contemporary activist poetics is the new avant-garde? Or something else?  \nWe strive to bring these conversations to the larger Seattle community and celebrate the voices of poets who are fusing their practices of activism and poetry. \nThe evening is part of a day long event\, which begins with a daytime symposium at the Simpson Center for the Humanities. Green (Assistant Professor of Queer Theory\, Feminist Studies at UC Santa Barbara) Scholar\, poet\, and filmmaker. \nFabian Romero (PhD Student\, University of Washington Gender\, Women and Sexuality Studies) Writer\, performance artist and activist. \nCarmen Gimenez Smith (Associate Professor\, New Mexico State University) Poet\, writer\, editor-in-chief of Puerto del Sol and publisher of Noemi Press.  \nLayli Long Soldier (English\, Diné College)\, recipient of a Native Arts and Cultures Foundation artist fellowship. \nThis program is made possible by the Seattle Public Library Foundation; The Simpson Center for the Humanities at the University of Washington; The School of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences and the MFA in Creative Writing and Poetics at the University of Washington Bothell; and the University of Washington School of Law.
