SUMMARY:Elevated Collection 008: Photography by Sara Dilley
DESCRIPTION:Sara Dilley moved to Seattle from Spokane in 2012 after competing her studies at Gonzaga University to fulfill a lifelong dream: to live in the city. She took an interest in photography early in life\, frequently chasing her family\, friends\, and pets around with camera in hand\, but the hobby lay dormant until her move to the west side of the Cascades. The passion transitioned into profession in early 2014 when she was asked to become the staff photographer and social media manager for Leafly. Her career there continued\, later transitioning into the role of photo editor and photographer on their world-class editorial team. This summer\, she left Leafly in pursuit of another dream long-held but only recently realized: to become a full time freelance photographer. \nHer work is often described as colorful\, vivacious\, and filled with genuine emotion. She is most comfortable working with people\, and possesses a keen eye at capturing real feeling in a dreamy\, at times surreal manner. While her professional work has focused on cannabis\, both lifestyle and product\, her passion is portraiture. She relishes the opportunity to capture people in their element\, but she also loves to play make believe\, building larger-than-life sets complete with costumes and lights and a team of creators who also love to make the impossible possible through pictures. \nHer Elevated Collection features a gamut of her favorite personal work\, including moments from her most recent excursion to Burning Man\, trips to the Washington Coast with some of her best friends\, a view into her nerdier hobbies (spoiler alert: she likes classic video games)\, and other little moments she’s collected along the way. \nFor inquiries regarding prints\, commissioned work\, or collaborations\, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with her! She can be reached at sara@piccadilley.com\, or by following any of the links below. \nPersonal Website and Portfolio: http://piccadilley.com\nInstagram: http://instgram.com/piccadilley\nTwitter: http://twitter.com/piccadilley\nFacebook: http://facebook.com/piccadilley

SUMMARY:When Women of Color Dance - FREE!
DESCRIPTION:STG and The Ziryab Collective present When Women of Color Dance at The Neptune on July 7\, 2016 as a part of the Nights at the Neptune series. GA seating. \nKindly RSVP here: https://www.tfaforms.com/423421 \nNights at the Neptune is an expression of local awakening— artists and audiences coming together to celebrate culture and community in a series of free performances. \nWhen people dance\, they share history— the stories of their ancestors. They share values— movement that their culture finds to be the most beautiful\, intelligent\, meaningful ways to present the body. They share their body with their brain— building greater health\, connecting mind and muscle. They share joy! \nDespite these truths\, when women of color dance\, they are usually misrepresented. Confident\, open\, and strong movements made by the bodies of women of color are often viewed as singularly sexual\, vain\, and subservient. In contrast\, men engaged in similar movement may be viewed as bold\, strong\, and capable. As a result\, young girls are discouraged from dancing freely and beautifully. \nA refocus needs to happen. In this production\, the abundant virtues of dance are reclaimed. Dancers take the stage to share all of these truths\, and to show the power of when women of color dance. \n*This performance is dedicated to young girls of color\, in hopes that they will aspire to experience the athleticism\, joy\, and beauty of dance.*

SUMMARY:Jessy Lanza with DJ Taye & Jimi Jaxon at The Crocodile
DESCRIPTION:Wednesday 6/22/16\nDisco Droppings & The Crocodile Present:\nJESSY LANZA\nDJ Taye\nJimi Jaxon\nCTPAK Film Crew Live Visuals\n$13 ADV\n8pm Doors\nAll-Ages + Bar w/I.D.\nAt The Crocodile \nJessy Lanza\nJessy Lanza’s second album ‘Oh No’ is addressed to her own constant nervousness. The pressure of music making\, which used to calm her nerves\, has led to a whole new world of contingencies that stoke the anxiety mill. The exclamation ‘Oh No’\, for Jessy\, marks yet another incident of randomness interrupting her tranquillity. All of which seems at odds with the confidence and spontaneity of this second album as well as recent collaborationswith the likes of Caribou\, DJ Spinn and Morgan Geist and his Galleria project. \nMade in her hometown of Hamilton\, Ontario\, with production partner Jeremy Greenspan from Junior Boys\, the plaintive\, reverb drizzled mood of the first album has all but given away to a more direct\, self-assured and joyful album. As with many artists whose hometown lie off the usual network of cultural hotspots\, ‘Oh No’ is driven positively by the idea of making music that isn’t inspired by where she lives. Instead\, the album resonates more with the philosophy of experimental pop of Japanese 80s electro outfit Yellow Magic Orchestra and Jessy’s breathless\, pitched vocals are reminiscent of YMO collaborator Miharu Koshi. Playfully laced with cascading arpeggios\, crispy drum machines and breezy songs\, ‘Oh No’ has an infectious energy that has been brewing in her live shows since her first album. As Jessy says ‘I want to make people feel good and I want to make myself feel good’. \nThe album oscillates between the languid\, coiled\, arpeggiated slow jams of ‘New Ogi’\, ‘GoingSomewhere’\, ‘Begins’\, ‘Could be u’\, ‘I Talk BB’ and the low slung 808 groove of ‘Vivaca’\, where Jessy’s vocal gymnastics run wild over minimal drums and synths\, and the catchy upbeat boogie of ‘VV Violence’\, ‘Never Enough’\, ‘OhNo’ and the high point of ‘It Means I Love You” which has a sparse addictive bounce with a pitched up vocal refrain and a nod to Shangaan electro. \nThe trials of dealing with nervousness are also encrypted into the artwork\, such as the plants that recur in the sleeve and videos. As Jessy remarked\, “I became obsessed with surrounding myself with tropical plants. I’ve been convinced that the air quality in our house is slowly killing us. It might sound crazy but the plants have made a huge difference.” \nAnxiety and botanical remedies or not\, ‘Oh No’ is a bold second album from Jessy and a marked step forward for her sound. Catch her as shetours with Junior Boys in February\, plays EU headline shows from May to June\, and in July has a North American Tour. \nDJ Taye\nIn a city filled with young talent\, Teklife’s youngest member\, DJ Taye. reigns the most unique out of the rest in his generation making music in Chicago . Hailing from the south side and south suburbs\, standing out didn’t take much for Taye. A member of the worlds finest clique of Footwork Dj’s since 2010\, producing and rapping since the age of 11\, and DJing since 12\, Every release\, album\, EP\, as time goes on\, seems to evolve more in more within the soul of an inspired and self motivated footwork pioneer. Trunk-rattling bass\, neck-snapping riddums\, all influenced from hip-hop\, club\, four-to-the-floor dance music\, house\, with sample varieties ranging to the latest trends to 90’s rap\, 80’s disco and funk\, even 70’s soul music. Traveling the world and letting every soul feel the energy that Teklife has to offer\, is his daily mission. Teklife Or No Life. \nJimi Jaxon\nFierce\, subversive\, bold. Using descriptors like these\, instead of merely listing genres gives a clue into Jimi Jaxon’s mindset. His work as an artist is more about the energy\, more about presenting sounds that connect with him most. This approach has him pulling from a wide range of genres and styles\, depending on the environment. Everything from Techno to Experimental\, Juke\, House\, Ambient\, Dubstep\, 2-Step\, Drum & Bass\, Garage\, Funk\, Disco\, Rock and Hip-Hop can appear in his sets. His style is for those with an open mind and an urge to move. Past resident for Decibel Festival\, opening showcases for Bok Bok\, Machinedrum\, Jimmy Edgar\, Clark\, Mount Kimbie\, DJ Rashad\, Kode 9 and more. He heads the Disco Droppings blog and 7 Deadly Records\, where his original productions and remixes can be found.

SUMMARY:Witness: A Fundraising Event
DESCRIPTION:We are all\, always looking for ways to bear witness to change – and what easier way is there to do so\, than a night out with friends\, drinks and dancing? \nThe world is a complex place and it’s often difficult to acknowledge the truth in our collective history. Our goal with this event is to raise funds and create conversation around what we agree to be the most important documentary we’ve ever seen\, exploring one of the most difficult subjects to talk about\, sexual violence. \nFilm at 11\, an award winning studio out of New York\, has produced the first ever documentary to explore the moment a woman known until now as ‘Witness JJ’\, testified in front of the International Criminal Tribunal of Rwanda\, that rape was used as a tool of war against her and as a method of genocide against the Rwandan Nation. She and two other brave women testified to their experiences\, despite threats against their lives\, and subsequently changed the trajectory of criminal justice\, forever. In turn\, this honest\, shocking and incredibly empowering film\, The Uncondemned will change the way we acknowledge these violations for generations to come. \nWe’re calling on our friends and families to help us\, help the Film at 11 team. Our target is to raise the last $4\,000 needed for post-production costs\, to make sure this film reaches it’s widest audience possible. Our event will feature local musicians and DJs\, limited edition merchandise from local artists\, and drink tickets for all who choose to attend and contribute. Donations can be made prior to attendance via the link below – suggested contribution for entry will be $5. \nhttps://www.crowdrise.com/theuncondemned \nCome join us – help our team\, help their team\, help eachother. \nPre-Emptive thanks to Therapy Lounge for the lending the space\, J-Nasty (Janice Ibarra) DJ Lady Coco (Myeka Powers) and DJ What Girls Like (Kaija Towner) for lending their wealth of tunes\, Jesse Brown and Yasmin L. Queen for lending us their art\, and to all the people who are out here fighting the good fight with us. \n*ADDITIONAL INFORMATION AND FULL LINEUP\, COMING SOON*

SUMMARY:REV during Backfire - featuring Ole Tinder
DESCRIPTION:Backfire Motorcycle Night returns to Ballard on June 15th and we are proud to welcome back Ole Tinder for our monthly\, local music showcase\, #REVduringBackfire. \nSinger/songwriter Mike Giacolino left behind a different sort of life (good union job\, wife\, and a big house in the suburbs) when he made the decision to live by his creative pursuits. Music had always been a part of his life and he’d done time in several rock/punk outfits\, but it all seems miles away from the man you see today (except for the tattoos). The culmination of one decision after another steered Giacolino from a traditional sort of life to that of a troubadour. He spent time touring the world playing with friends\, while experimenting with his own material inspired by the 60’s & 70’s country/folk music of the Flying Burrito Brothers\, New Riders of the Purple Sage\, and John Prine. As his confidence grew\, he began recording (including 2008’s solo effort The Longest Year)\, and realized it was time he focused his energy on the songs that were spilling out of him. He began playing around Seattle as a solo artist but soon was attracting some of the city’s finest players-Nils Petersen\, J. Kardong\, and Pat Schowe\, to back him. It wasn’t long before they became more than just players\, and today seeing an Ole Tinder show is like watching old friends play around a warm fire.
