Town Hall ArtTalk – Masterpiece Code Switch: The Subversive Art of Kehinde Wiley

March 30, 2016 @ 6:30 pm

A panel discussion with Gary Faigin, Negarra Kudumu (Educator, Frye Art Museum), and Maikoiyo Alley-Barnes, (writer, artist, and filmmaker) at Town Hall Seattle.

Internationally-recognized painter Kehinde Wiley has gained prominence with his hyper-realist Proto-Baroque portraits in which he substitutes his Brooklyn neighbors for the royals and lordships we might expect to see in such compositions. Join us as we discuss the racial, social, and artistic issues these provocative paintings raise. This discussion coincides with Kehinde Wiley’s show, A New Republic, at the Seattle Art Museum exhibiting February 11 to May 8, 2016.
