People have used the word “experimental” to describe a lot of things over the years: one-person theater performances, confounding modern art installations, house music comprised entirely of bird calls.
Where it once meant something was groundbreaking and boundary-pushing, It’s become a catch-all word of sorts. When the one describing the work doesn’t quite “get it”, but they appreciate the effort, it’s billed as “experimental”.
But make no mistake: when we say Lux sponsored artist Kenshi Killzzz and her body of work is experimental, we mean it in the most laudible of ways.
Genre-bending, lo-fi infused, and absolutely enchanting, her discography has the power to remind everyone that musical experimentation can still result in captivating tracks that sound as good from the first listen as they do the fiftieth.
About Kenshi Killzzz
A Seattle native, Kenshi Killzzz is a relatively new face in the the local music scene, releasing her debut single in 2020. Since then, she’s been hard at work perfecting her craft, releasing new tracks and performing regularly.
A contralto with a slight rasp that likens her to musical greats like Sade, her mesmerizing vocals float over bass-heavy alt R&B beats with a dreamy, immersive ease. Don’t attend one of her live performances if you don’t want to get goosebumps.
Kenshi’s ambition is evident in her recorded tracks and performance style, as is her pride in her Indian heritage. Cultural touchpoints reflecting her background can be seen across every aspect of her identity as an artist. From her lyrics and song titles to her personal style, Kenshi is bringing Southeast Asian representation to a genre that, historically, has had very little.
However, Kenshi’s music videos, which also invoke cultural imagery (see: Kama Sutra Me), are where her full artistic ambition is realized. Their stunning, no-holds-barred visuals add another layer of immersion to her already hypnotic musical stylings.

Kenshi Killzzz’ Go-to Plan for a Shred Sesh
Whether you watch a Kenshi Killzzz performance, her avant-garde music videos, or explore her discography, you’ll discover she’s a bold, experimental artist unafraid to try new things.
Going into our time with her with this knowledge, we weren’t surprised that we’d be witness to yet another exploration outside of her comfort zone: her ongoing journey of learning how to skateboard.
What’s her secret to stay motivated and keep on leveling up? Well, some of it comes naturally…but she also gets a boost from keeping the right cannabis products on deck. (Get it? “Deck”? Nah, it’s cool, we’ll see ourselves out.)
Gold Leaf Gardens Flower
For an on-the-go activity like skating, you might have thought a pre-roll would be the move. But when you’re using equipment that makes a perfect roll tray, why resign yourself to a sub-par experience? More on that here, if you’re curious!
Before she puts wheels on the ground, Kenshi uses her board to roll a big ol’ bat filled with Gold Leaf Gardens flower.
Known for their organic growing methods and effects that outlast the rest, Gold Leaf Gardens is the perfect partner in crime for any skate session. You’re guaranteed a potent experience- perfect for letting go of everything besides landing that trick and getting back up, no matter how hard you slam.
Fire up that J when you’re sweeping up the rocks and broken glass at the spot. By the time you’re done, you’ll be more than ready to rip.
Cere’s Dragon Balm
A lot of learning to skate stories go something like this: “I skated for a little while, but then I got hurt and never did it again.”
That’s not how Kenshi’s story is going to go, though.
How can she be so sure? She’s got Cere’s Dragon Balm at her side.
With its synergy of cannabis and healing botanicals like clove, cajaput, and mint oil, this CBD/THC infused roll-on stick is perseverance in topical form. Keep some in your backpack for on-the-spot first aid, use it the next day when the swelling hits, or both.
Dragon Balm is also handy for preventing injuries, albeit in a roundabout, off-label way: it doubles as wax!
No need to abandon that trick idea you forget to bring wax to smooth out a rail or curb. Rub a little Dragon Balm on it and slide away, victorious and injury-free.
Just make sure to clean off the roll-on before you use it on your skin again. Nobody ever healed by massaging paint chunks into the affected area.
Mary Jones Soda
Hydration is important when you’re skating, especially in the summer. But so is high-dration! And there’s no better way to stay high-drated than with Mary Jones soda.
These infused sodas, made by none other than Seattle’s own Jones Soda, come in 10mg and 100mg dosages and feature the same lineup of Jones flavors that you know and love: Green Apple, Berry Lemonade, Orange Cream, and more.
Jones’ proximity to skate culture also makes Mary Jones Soda a serendipitous addition to any session. Jones is a longtime supporter of skateboarding, sponsoring skaters and events both locally and across the country.
Fire Bros Vape
Your board makes a good roll tray before you’ve skated it…but after? You probably don’t wanna roll up your flower with the grime of the city all over it. Gold Leaf deserves better than that!
Not to mention, you don’t want to get kicked out of the spot by security with a board full of ground-up primo buds. That’s a tragedy waiting to happen.
That’s where Fire Bros comes in to save the day.
Their disposable vapes, made under one roof from seed to harvest to extraction to packaging, give you the robust, flavorful experience of smoking Fire Bros flower in a sleek, discreet, convenient format. And with a spectrum of signature strains to choose from, you can steer your high in the right direction as you go- whatever that direction may be.
